Vision, Purpose, and Values
Who are you? What
does your company do, make, or provide?
What is your 30-second elevator pitch that describes this? Do your employees know these
things? Do your supervisors and
managers? Where are they written
down or posted? Do you yourself
know?
For organizational clarity, you must be able to articulate a
clear company vision, purpose, and values. You need this, your managers need this, your employees need
this, and—your customers probably ought to know a bit more about you as well.
Leaders need vision and strategy. But most don't make time for it. In the words of J. Michael
Marks, principal at Indian River Consulting Group, “they just "whack at
the ball."
You’ve been capitalized, you’ve designed and manufactured great
products, and you’ve deployed a great sales team and marketing strategy. But do you know what you stand
for? Do you know where you’re
heading in 5, 10, or 15 years? Do
you know why you do what you do?
And what makes your best employees great?
Don’t let the hectic pace of the day to day operations prevent
you from connecting with why you exist in the first place.
